Rock legends Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin all tragically died at age 27, but they live on in Scott Lobaido’s surreal “Forever 27.” Influenced by the style of Dali and Escher, the work shows the young musicians happily hanging out in a rock and roll heaven. Numerous symbols are woven into the painting, such as the ball and chain from Janis Joplin’s song of the same name. Infamous for his controversial patriotic images, Lobaido’s other works include portraits of Frankenstein and women of the 1940s.
